凡事察验 [Test All Things]

Book: 1 Thessalonians (New testament)
Author: Paul

1 Thessalonians 5:20 :“Do not despise prophecies.”
1 Thessalonians 5:21 :“Test all things; hold fast what is good.”
1 Thessalonians 5:22 :“Abstain from every form of evil.”

Today’s Meditation: Prophecies are born from the affection of Holy Spirit. Thus, despising prophecies equals to eliminating the affection of Holy Spirit. One who enjoys listening to preaches does not mean he values prophecies. One who listen and do not do is practically despising prophecies. Many of us are like the Athenians described in Acts 17:19~21 who liked to treat truths as new thing but refused to accept them with sincerity. They tend to forget what they heard easily. We cannot simply accept any preach that is preached in the name of God. We need to test what we heard carefully. There is vast possibilities where the work of Holy Spirit and grace of Spirit are abused. This occurs especially in supernatural cases, where evil spirit will use us. Therefore, we have to be extra careful to test them. Those who abused the name of God to mislead people is the most hated one by God. We need to abstain from every form of evil. We need to test all things to make sure whether they pleasure God or not before doing them. There is no reason we have to force ourselves doing something that does not cherish God.
