[Self-Commend]

Book: 2 Corinthians (New Testament)
Author: Paul

2 Corinthians 10:12 :“For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”

Today’s Meditation: One crisis in today’s Christianity is that there are people who commend themselves. Some commend themselves as prophets, apostles, or the sole representative of God. Some commend themselves as Christ, the one who is going to be God. Surprisingly, there are many ‘Christians’ who worship them and follow them. There are many organisations in today’s Christianity where they agree on a theory, method, or spiritual person then group together to form a larger organisation. They promote themselves and despise other Christians. ‘measuring themselves by themselves’ means to make ourselves as the Christian’s standard, or an organisation as churches’ standard. This way is unwise and made many Christians to lose their way. Christians making themselves as standard and criticise others. This is unwise as Christ is the only standard. Exalt, convince, self-commend, self-comparing, and self-acknowledging are the acts that deviate from Christianity. People with these traits are not worthy to be the disciples of the Lord.
