奴仆 [Slave]

Book: Romans (New Testament)
Author: Paul

Romans 6:16 :“Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?”

Today’s Meditation: This verse reveals us a precious principle, that God does not force us to devote to Him. Although we are redeemed by God and belongs to Him, He does not force us. He gives us choice to be His servant willingly. In term of the law, we are God’s slaves since the day we are saved. In term of experiences, we become the servant of God since the day we choose to devote. Therefore, there is no such God’s servant that does not know he devotes to God. We need to devote to be God’s servant. It is up to our decision. The nature of sins is to disobey God. Disobeying God means to be the slave of sins and ends up to death. Obeying God means to be the slave of righteousness and ends up to eternity. During Paul’s era, slaves had not identity, status, time, opinion, and ability to do things they like. They needed to obey their master’s orders. As we choose to obey God, we should obey Him at all time.
