妄求 [Ask Amiss]

Book: James (New Testament)
Author: James

James 4:3 :“You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”

Today’s Meditation: Anything we pray must fit the will of God. Otherwise, we will receive nothing. We need to pray according to the will of God if we want our prayers to be effective. ‘ask’ in the original Scripture has the meaning of the praying upwards. Thus, we need to be humble and pray to God with fear. Anything that we pray which exceeds our need and measurement is considered amiss. Anything we pray on random is considered amiss as well. A spiritual prayer is to pray that God’s will will be fulfilled, while a selfish prayer is to pray that we get what we want. God withholds no good thing from those who walk uprightly. Therefore, we need to pray to God with a pure heart so that He will bless us.
