行不义阻挡真理 [Suppress Truth in Righteousness]

Book: Romans (New Testament)
Author: Paul

Romans 1:18 :“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in righteousness,”

Today’s Meditation: Paul first talked about ungodliness before unrighteousness to signify that we are unrighteous because we are not holy towards God. As we are not holy towards God, we will not be righteous towards people. We first are unholy towards God before unrighteous towards people. We will have wrong prospect facing people if we have been wrong towards God. Therefore, we should focus more on our spiritual condition in God instead of our morality on outside. The biggest ungodliness of us towards God is the lack of belief. We need to have the basic faith that we trust in the salvation of God. God provides love to each one of us. Whoever that is not willing to accept His love will experience His wrath. ‘suppress the truth in righteousness’ has another meaning of ‘trapping in unrighteousness’ in the original Scripture. We will raise the wrath of God if we made people misunderstood God. We have different status in the world, but we are just either obeying or suppressing the truth in God. If we do not obey, it means we are suppressing the truth. There is no third type in God. Any act of suppressing truth is counted as unrighteous and will bring His wrath. We need salvation because we are ungodly and unrighteous. If we were to spread the gospel of God, we first need to reveal no ungodliness and unrighteousness. Thus, let our conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ before serving people.
