债 [Debt]

Book: Romans (New Testament)
Author: Paul

Romans 8:12 :“Therefore, brethren, we are debtors —— not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.”

Today’s Meditation: This verse tells that we might live according to the flesh. We need to remind ourselves always that we are not debtors to our flesh. Thus, we do not live according to the flesh. This verse also tells us that we cannot live according to the flesh as long as Christ lives in us. In another words, Christians cannot live a disproportionate life that humiliate the name of the Lord.

[Give No Offense]

Book: 2 Corinthians (New Testament)
Author: Paul

2 Corinthians 6:3 :“We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed.”

Today’s Meditation: Anything we do must not bring the situation of perverse or defrauding others to avoid becoming a barricade from people to believe in the Lord, or creating a loophole for people to attack or slander. As a servant of God, we need to have witnesses in life to be efficient at works aside from being responsible at works. Any defect in life will fall short of the Lord’s works. As a servant of God, we must avoid loophole in life. This is more important than educational level or knowledge. If we make people fall in life, we will be blamed on the works of the Lord.

[Do Not be Afraid]

Book: John (New Testament)
Author: Apostle John

John 6:20 :“But He said to them, It is I; do not be afraid.”

Today’s Meditation: As long as we have the Lord with us, we do not need to be afraid. We will get comfort in adversities as long as the Lord is with us. Just like Matthew 8:8, we just need ‘a word’ from the Lord to meet our needs. We need to have constant fellowship with the Lord to know His word so that we can get comfort and motivation. Thus, we need to get close with the Lord daily.

计划 [Plan]

Book: Romans (New Testament)
Author: Paul

Romans 1:13 :“Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles.”

Today’s Meditation: ‘often’ reveals that Paul was not being anyhow on the matter of spreading gospel to Romans. He had the fervour in this. Spreading gospel must be from the burden inside. As we seek for the will of God, we need to think of the environment as well. The exterior environment is not the only index of God’s leading. The passion and burden in us are important as well. The unfavourable environment does not mean God is forbidding us. The will of God and His leading work with time. The time might not be right now, but might be right in the future. Some people quote from James that we as Christians should not have plans but to put our hope in God to lead us. This is actually a Biblical misinterpretation. We can have plans, but we rely on God’s leading in the plan and while carrying out the plans.

[Lay Down Life and Love]

Book: John (New Testament)
Author: Apostle John

John 15:13 :“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”

Today’s Meditation: Christ’s love not only revealed on His words but also of His death out of sacrifice. Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

[The Righteous of the Scribes and Pharisees]

Book: Matthew (New Testament)
Author: Matthew

Matthew 5:38 :“You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”

Today’s Meditation: The scribes and Pharisees’ righteous was an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. They thought that a fair revenge is not a sin. In their mindset, those who came to sin against you was a sin, but it is not a sin when you avenge them. The world seeks for justice and fair, but we as Christian seeks more than that.

[Death and Resurrection]

Book: Luke (New Testament)
Author: Luke

Luke 24:7 :“saying, The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”

Today’s Meditation: Our life has two sides: death and resurrection. This is the life of the Lord as well as our experiences. Lord Jesus went through death and resurrection to reveal the double standard of righteousness and sanctification. We need to face death and resurrection as well. We need to rely on the Spirit to cure our flesh and see ourselves as dead. Today, we live but for the Lord who resurrected from death and continues living. The Lord was resurrected on the third day after death. During the time when God firstly created the world, life was born on third day as well. Therefore, the fact that the Lord resurrected on the third day symbolises the life of God. The cross is the way to resurrection, and resurrection is the fruit of the cross.
